Who are we and what have we achieved? |

The Torbay Supporting People Service User Group is a friendly group of people who use or have used Supporting People services. We aim to give clients a voice in the planning and development of services. We enjoy being involved, and meet regularly to do a variety of interesting things.
A leaflet and poster advertising the group have been created. We also have our own logo (see left) produced for us by local artist John Case. We would like to thank John for his time and effort in creating this.
In 2006 we organised and facilitated a client forum and through this recruited new members.
Supporting People in Torbay has sub groups that plan and develop services for different types of need such as mental health, learning disability, older people etc. Each of these sub groups has client representatives who are supported to represent the views of clients in these areas. The representatives feedback information to the Service User Group, that ensures clients are being properly listened to and supported in the sub groups.

Service User Group members are also involved in buying new services by being on the tender selection panels. We also make sure a client is on the interview panel for recruiting new staff to the Supporting People Team.
A definite highlight has been winning Regional Champion status jointly with Bolton. We won it because of the way clients are involved in Supporting People. This has really boosted morale and we attended a conference in London and organised a conference in Torbay to share good practice with other Supporting People Teams.
