What is Service User Involvement?

Service user involvement can take many forms and be done in many different ways.

Basically though, it is about making sure that the views of the people who use the services have the chance to be heard in order to make real, sustainable changes.

There are a number of levels at which service users can get involved in the development and delivery of services. A good method to assess the level of your organisation is the Ladder of Participation.

Meaningful service user involvement takes time and effort to develop and needs constant monitoring and improvement to meet the changing needs of the client group you are working with.

There is no single method or solution, but hopefully some of the ideas within this website will help you to develop an involvement programme that is effective and sustainable.
